On June 30, 2022, Governor Mike Parson of Missouri signed into law amendments to the Revised Statutes of Missouri, Section 59.310.2. The amendments went into effect August 28, 2022. Section 59.310.2 outlines requirements for documents presented for recording. Previously the list included the following:

  1. The title of the document;
  2. The date of the document;
  3. All grantors’ names;
  4. Any statutory address;
  5. The legal description of the property; and
  6. Reference book and pages for statutory requirements, if applicable.

Because of the amendment, the third requirement now reads “All grantors’ names and marital status”. We have determined that vesting fields are sufficient to cover this requirement, as long as the correct information is given. As of August 28, 2022, marital status of the grantor needs to be included in the vesting field of recordable documents or the county recorded of deeds may refuse to record the document.
