Docutech is clarifying the calculation used to determine the total found on Line 30 for monthly payments (MO. PAYMENT) in Section D – Debts and Obligations. This line should reflect the total of all the values listed under Items in their respective columns, including any entries from separate sheets if additional space is needed. By default all items are included in the total, regardless of whether they are in a row marked by an “x,” (which is used to indicate which debts are to be considered “significant” and included in Section E – Monthly Income and Deductions on Line 40 (Less Those Obligations Listed in Section D Which Should Be Deducted from Income). For instructions on how to determine whether a debt is “significant,” see the topic “Analysis of Debts and Obligations” in section 5 of Chapter 4, Credit Underwriting, of VA Pamphlet 26-7 located here.
