On June 1, 2017 Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) signed into law TX HB 1217 (2017), which amends various parts of Chapter 121 of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code to support online notary publics and online notarial acts. Notably, the amendments would require notarial acknowledgments to “include a space for an online notarization . . . to indicate by which method . . . the acknowledging person appeared before the officer” (amend. Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. § 121.006[d]; Supra § 1; see http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=85R&Bill=HB1217). These amendments will take effect on July 1, 2018.
