On September 15, 2020 Gov. David Ige (D) signed into law HI S.B. 2275 (2020), which is meant to “update the laws regarding notaries public to conform to the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts (2018), the Hawaii Uniform Electronic Transactions Act, other state notary laws, and current notary practices.” (Ibid. § 1; see https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/measure_indiv.aspx?billtype=SB&billnumber=2275&year=2020 for details). Among these changes are those involving remote online notarizations. These provisions will take effect on January 1, 2021.
Also, MD S.B. 678 (2019), which was signed into law by Gov. Larry Hogan (R), amends various parts of Title 18 of Maryland’s State Government Article regarding notarial certificates, including those involving remote online notarizations (see http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Legislation/Details/SB0678/?ys=2019RS for details). These amendments take effect on October 1, 2020.
